Discovery College Arts Festival 2011 • February 28 - March 5 2011

Tickets for Peter & The Wolf, Splat and Comedy Nights are now available for purchase from the PTA shop or at Uncle Russ. Seats for the free lectures (Ceet & Kongo, Doug Goodkin and Kacey Wong) can be booked through the links at the bottom of this page. See you at the shows!

The 2011 Discovery College Arts Fest is here!

Throughout this week the school will come alive with drama and music performances by the students. Make sure you visit the school!

Check out the program to find out information about the exciting performers, workshops, exhibits and presenters who will make up this growing event.

Silent Auction
Ask your child to show you their class Art Work for the Silent Auction. Place a bid to get the chance to take it home with you. The Auction opens on Thursday 24 February and closes 15 minutes after the end of the Annual Concert (around 8.45pm on the evening of Friday 4 March).

Carnival Parade
Come along on the morning of Friday 4 March and watch the Carnival Parade. Work with your child and get their creative ideas flowing around dressing with an arts theme. Students can come as their favourite musician, actor, artist or simply dress artily! The parade will start at 8.45am and parents are most welcome to attend.

Faust's Touring Theatre presents: PETER & THE WOLF

Monday 28 February | 4pm

This superb dramatization of Peter & the Wolf, accompanied by movement, dialogue and Sergey Prokofiev's musical score, provides an enthralling performance for young people.

Come and watch this tale of a brave young boy who takes it upon himself to go out hunting for a dangerous wolf. Peter fails to heed the words of warning from his wise old grandfather, and without the slightest fear ventures forward with a bird, a duck, and a cat. Smart and quick witted, our young hero involves his new friends to help capture the wolf and make sure no other animals fall prey.

SPLAT!

Monday 28 February | 7.30pm

Welcome to a world of rhythm and rhyme! Splat! Is an exciting mix of poetic styles beautifully brought alive with a dramatic twist. This show introduces new poems and some old ones too, a dash of the classic and contemporary. Many poetic styles are involved, and these include narratives, limericks, couplets, ballads, acrostics and more. Poets featured include: Spike Milligan, Langston Hughes, Shel Silverstein, E.E. Cummings. Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to enjoy a poetry performance that will captivate their imagination!

Ceet & Kongo : 'The Origins of Graffiti'

Popular DB-based international graffiti artists Ceet Fouad and Cyril Kongo will explore the history of Graffiti.

Doug Goodkin : 'Why Music Matters'

Tuesday 1 March | 7.30pm

Doug Goodkin is a leading music educator and expert in the 'Orff Schulwerk' approach to music education. His lecture on ‘Why Music Matters’ will look at the significance of music in a child’s life.. Kacey Wong : Contemporary Artist's Talk

Wednesday 2 March | 2pm

Acclaimed Hong-Kong based contemporary artist Kacey Wong will present an “Artist's Talk” to Year 10 students as part of their study of the urban environment in Hong Kong. Wong's playful and high profile artworks often comment on serious challenges that face Hong Kong society, such as homelessness and population density.
